The IRS reminded taxpayers in mid June 2023 that the deadline to claim their 2019 refunds is approaching. The deadline is July 17, 2023.

Note that the IRS has extended their refund window as usually it is three years. However, the three year window for 2019 was extended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

If no tax return (1040) is filed, the taxpayers could be losing not online the excess on taxes withheld, but also any potential credits, such as the Earned income tax credit for low and moderate income families.

There is still time available and we encourage all taxpayers to file their taxes timely. If a refund is due but not filed in the appropriate time slot, then, the taxpayer will give up on their refund.
