If you missed the May 17, 2021 deadline, you might have filed an extension and you will be in one of the following scenarios:
1) If an individual taxpayer is owed a refund, there’s no penalty for filing late. If you are getting a refund, file as soon as possible as US taxpayers lose over a billion dollars in refunds each year (See a previous post on the 2017 non claimed refunds).
2) If the individual owes taxes and has not paid by May 17, 2021 is subject to penalties and interest, even if an extension was filed. Note that the taxes due were required to be paid by the deadline.
